If the DX magnification effect is what you are after I suspect the D500 is the better choice. The D300 will not power on. No green light indicator when the battery is placed inside, nothing. I read some of the suggestions on the forum and followed those. The first MH-18a I got came with the D200 and shipped with the EN-EL3e. The MH-18 and EN-EL3 only have two contacts, whereas the MH-18a and EN-EL3e have a third contact.
