Likely a bug, however it could be the server you're playing on. Most servers currently are on 1-2 hour restarts (to respawn loot, clean up bodies, etc). Dog food is safe. I've never got sick from it cat food, dog food or unknown canned food but if you eat the whole can at once you may puke it up. Well, you can go it solo but you can't play it in a solo offline world. It has to be on a server. If you wanted, the closest you could come is buying a server, putting a password lock and then you could be good. DayZ helped them fund the development of their new engine and now they are 100% working as hard as they can on ArmA 4 which will have it all. In the end, if they deliver with ArmA4, It'll make sense.
